Never owned a Porche before and wondering what dealers are like to deal with ?
What sort of % off list drive away can you expect to negotiate on new Cayman S ?
What is typical time for delivery if you get one built vs buying one they have in stock and getting some options on it ?
I just picked my Cayman S yesterday. First Porsche and I absolutely love it. Where are you based? I spoke to a couple of different dealers with entirely opposite experiences at each.
I am based on the Gold Coast but bought mine from WA dealer. I found Gold Coast very difficult to deal with. Dealing with Perth was a pleasure and we have bought three new cars off them in last 4 months. I dealt with Paul who was the sales manager there.
You can see the stages of delivery in my signature below. 8.5 Months.
I think the best you could achieve is about 4 months from Order to Delivery. Depending on options and their availability.
Its 2 and a bit months from exit build to delivery here in Oz
The build time is dependant on dealer slots and if any options you select have delays on them.
If you go PTS (paint to sample) then its anyones guess.
Some of the more unique colours, like Lime-Gold are being batched for painting and most of us that have gone that route have had a 2- 6 week batching delay imbedded in the process. Mine was ordered before the colour was available so that cost me an additional 3 Months.
I do recommend ordering your car. Its an experience that you know its yours from the specification and all the way through the build just for you. Here in Oz we also get a nice commemorative trophy with our names and Vin numbers.
Welcome, and congrats on deciding to own a Porsche! I am also new to the Porsche family, and I think the 981 is a great first choice. From my experience, in general, all the Porsche dealers I spoke to (US, SoCal area) were pretty good, nothing negative to say. I asked for 7% off and only got one taker so I pulled the trigger. All of which, were willing to do 5% with no problem. As far as wait time, it depends where you live. I waited about 3 months and I live in CA. All of your questions have been discussed thoroughly, try a search and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Good luck!
P.S. If you don't already know, we have a great Waiters Club on the forum to help you cope with the wait.
I also recommend a custom order. Your first Porsche will be a once in a lifetime event, have them make what you want. In the USA, chicago area, some options we not available on the lot. I found one Car with Sport Seats, and only 1 with PASM. There we only a few with MT. I think working out the choices on the configurator is part of the fun.
