I tried a cheap gopro knockoff (<$25) camera on the tow bar and it worked surprising well. I used the bicycle lock down to attach it near the ring. I haven't seen anyone mention mounting a camera on the tow bar so I don't know if this is copacetic. The plastic mount probably is not a good idea but if this is allowed then I would buy a more rigid bike mount. Ideally I want the camera mounted looking at the rear tires (improve my turning on the slaloms) but starting my turns better also works.

Totally dependent on who you are running with and their rules for safety. In PCA Zone 8 we allow outside mounted cameras if they are mechanically mounted with a clamp device and tethered to the car. Some clubs will let you mount with suction cups but I have run over a couple Gopros that failed in a hot track session so I can't recommend suction mounts.

Suction mounts are dangerous and stupid. Plastic mounts are better than steel or aluminum in most cases - if it is struck it should fail and break away.

I've got a rear facing GoPro mount on the wing upright, on my Audi track car.

That is what is on my car. Very secure, but gets into way of parking sensors and have to press the disable button all the time.
