A short time ago I got my first Porsche a Boxter S 2013 model, and have discovered that the factory fitted alarm is not very loud at all.
Would it be a D.I.Y job to replace the siren with a louder siren?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Car alarms are really kind of pointless anyway. When was the last time you called the cops, or even looked in the direction of a car alarm going off? Most of the time it's an annoyance. Often time they just go off at unwanted times, like when a motorcycle or loud stereo passes by, and wouldn't really stop a determined thief anyway.

I think passive systems that immobilize and/or track the car are better. And using some discretion on where you park...

How about a louder after market alarm, working alongside the original?

I agree to some point, but when your at home or nearby, you want to be able to distinguish the sound of your alarm sound, and unlike the factory fitted option that is not loud enough when using a shared carpark.
