I agree with the statement that Caymans just don't have enough failures to warrant concern. My car was recently apart for warranty work and I spent the 700 bucks for the direct oil feed as a " while you're in there" but we looked at my IMS and it was perfect. But the reason I am posting is look at the 996 boards and there is strong evidence that this wasn't as wide-spread as reported. Sure there was IMS issues but it was some epidemic. My buddy has a 996 4S and decided to follow my lead and do the direct oil feed and replace his IMS while doing a clutch job, his IMS bearing was perfect on a 87k mile 2004.
Things can happen to any car, this IMS issue has now spawned a whole new cottage industry. Look at Excellence every month at the ads... IMS, IMS and IMS.
