Hello fellow Midwesterners. Thought I'd pass this along.

The Chicago Region of the SCCA is hosting an autocross school and event for people with no autocross experience (like me) as well as autocross novices.

Here's a link with more info.

Chicago Region, SCCA - Solo Events 2010

As the link above indicates, it's 4/10 & 4/11 at the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL.

I've signed up ($120) and am really looking forward to it. Let me know if you have done this event in the past and if so, what you think of it.

Also let me know if you decide to go, too. I hope I'm not the only croc there!

I went two years ago - it is a well run and well attended event. My times weren't bad for a first-timer, but it's awful hard to autoX past the handicap the SCCA gives the croc. But if it is your first time, you'll have a blast and you won't be thinking about the times except to beat your own. I had a great instructor and most guys (and gals) said the same thing.

That said, they let any kind of car in. I was next to a early model Chevy Caprice. Really.

Thanks for the feedback.
Ahem. Let me rephrase: I was next to a stock, slightly rusty Chevy Caprice that had just been taken out of use as a taxicab.

Really. Not a single performance modification.
