The tape being applied on the hood, is that for a clear bra seam? If so, do you also polish and wax the clear bra?

+1. I always read (and enjoy) Phil's posts. What an amazing detailer.

I am also fond of E46 M3s. I almost owned one twice, but ultimately didn't. My loss. This one is lowered too much for my tastes though. Good move to upgrade the brakes.

I had an 01 with tons of track mods and thousands of track miles. In fact it literally started coming apart at the seams. Loved the car though, incredibly easy to drive. You have to get the rear low like that for proper rake to make the brakes work.

I had an M Coupe, and so many people I knew were suffering from the same sort of issue - welds literally coming apart - I got rid of it earlier than I probably should have (though I did keep it for five years). BMW is notorious for under-engineering the 3-series and related cars. Cracking shock mounts, seams that come apart, cooling systems that explode, tiny differentials, and cheap brakes (that somehow manage to work well and feel good on the street), but I still covet their products. I'm afraid to go near my local BMW dealer in my DD Benz sedan, for fear I'll trade it on a new M3 Coupe. (Even so, I like the looks of the E46 M3 better.)

I know what you mean, after everything I still want one. I guess that is the difference of trying to make sports cars out of GTs. The brakes just piss me off. Honestly, I would have a new M3 in my garage right now if they would just put some decent brakes on the car. That engine is just unparalleled. Right up there with Ferraris.
