Disable Paddle Shifters

I track my '09 Cayman S which has the PDK transmission with "Paddle shifters" on the steering wheel. Especially on Sport Plus mode I find that I inadvertently hit the paddle shifters causing dangerous and unwanted downshifts at high rpms. Can the Paddle shifters be disabled?

I do not believe it is possible to disable them with normal means.
That said, are you sure you are hitting the paddles, and not just engaging the throttle kick-down feature?
The reason I ask is that this will cause a downshift at the most useless time possible.
If, on the other hand, you are sure you are hitting the paddles inadvertently, I could only recommend one choice.
Remove the airbag, and then disconnect the steering wheel wiring for the paddles themselves.
This might create a different issue, as I have no idea if it would create new warning lights.
Good luck finding a solution!
My Porsche Tech at Harper Porsche in Knoxville, Tn via computer just "coded vehicle to not have paddle shifters" and all is fine. No warning lights, gear shifting and PDK modes work well. The paddle shifters are successfully disabled. Not expensive either!

This happens to me a lot in normal driving when I'm being a little more aggressive than normal. Glad to hear I can shut them off. Thanks for the post.
