...Porsche was making the 911, 944, and 928 at the same time? What were the power outputs of those cars? I think the 928 and the 944 turbo had more hp than the 911 did at the time, but I may be wrong. Anybody know for sure?

Here we go, 1986.

Car As-Tested Price Horsepower 0-60 (seconds) Top Speed
Porsche 944 Turbo $30,820 217 6.0 155
Porsche 911 Cabriolet $41,301 200 5.7 130
Porsche 928S $50,702 288 6.3 152

So, historically speaking, the GT4 is not the first car to have more hp than the 911.

I think this was discussed before. The 944 Turbo was allowed to be faster. Porsche was in financial trouble. They were trying to end the air cooled cars with the 928 and the front engined cars. Didn't work. The 928 should always have been faster. Its the 944 turbo people remember. So yes.

BUT, Porsche was not in a "protect the 911 at all cost mindset at that time".

The 928 was to be the eventual replacement for the 911. Modern, balanced, etc
