Dunno - it's not something that's common. Did the entire mirror (backing and mechanism) go missing?
One thing BMW motorcycle owners used to do when one model had a habit of chucking mirrors was to use some fishing filament line attached to the back of the mirror and anchored inside the mirror housing to keep the glass from disappearing entirely. Of course, on a car, you do risk dinging up the sides of the car if it falls out at speed and is tethered to the mirror housing.
