Hello out there!
I read the topics about enginerattles but the rattle in my engine is slightly different. It's a 2005 Boxster S. A year and a half I received a new engine with the big bearing intermediate shaft. After the winterhibernation I changed the engineoil and filter. When I came home the engine was hot. At tickover a hear now a rattle in the righthand cylinderbank. When I start the engine, if it's cold, it's silent. Only when the engine is thouroughly hot the rattling noise is there. The oil is the correct Mobil one. The engine has now run 8500 km's. I went to a Porsche dealership to have it investigated. They said it's alright. Don't worry. But I do. Even after a good thresh the noise is there. After my opnion it has nothing to do with the long hibernation. Any suggestions? The variocam comes in at a certain RPM. After the revs comes down the cam should go to it's original position. Is it possible that the variocamactuator is stuck? Or is it a dirty lifter like the man at Porsche said? If so, it should happen with a cold engine because the oil is still thick and not with a hot engine as the oil is very fluid.
