My base 07 Cayman has developed an engine whine that I can't solve.
It seems to be more evident from 1500-3000 rpm, above that it's drowned out by the exhaust. It is rpm dependent, does it in gear and neutral, warm or cold, ac on or off. It always seems to be there in those rpm.
Mentioned to the indy in the last service, they changed a pulley but whine is still there.
No coolant leaks, no change in performance.

Anybody solved something like this?

Water pump failures are very common on the 987 models now that they have a few years on them. They have plastic impellers in them and can fail with relatively low miles compared to other car models. The bearings can start to whine even if there is no leaking and you will find many others with similar symptoms as you if you do a Google search of "987 engine whine noise"

My 08 CS had a bit of a whine that started the day before the Air/Oil separator failed.

How many miles on the water pump? That's my guess as well. I just replaced mine on my '05 Boxster S about a week ago as it had finally started leaking and had a similar low whine like yours after 70k miles.
