Just so you know, off the car as a solo piece? That shouldn't be a huge paint shop spray cost. You don't need to be searching in only one color, especially if you find a white one.
Bumper cover is easier to handle than door dings, you just eat the cost of a new one. Better body shops have paint cameras that will match paint perfectly, even accounting for fade.
Absolutely 08, I'm trying to say they will get it as close as it arrives from the factory where there is a slight difference in appearance between those surfaces as you say.
Color change cars in the 80's = "don't look in the trunk, under the hood or at any interior color keyed metal". Done correctly a complete color change is what you said, a pain in the Donkey. If I had a car on a rotisserie, then I'd do it.
