Isudar Wireless CarPlay Install and Customer Support Success Story

I have a 2016 Boxster GTS with the PCM 3.1 Bose System with Satellite Radio, but wanted to update the system to support Wireless CarPlay. I really wanted to maintain the stock look and didn't want to go with an aftermarket head unit and all of the associated adaptation to the Bose system. After quite a bit of research, I settled on an Isudar Wireless CarPlay Kit. I didn't want to have to mess with hanging an auxiliary box under the dash somewhere, like some of the other options required, and wasn't too intimidated to install the daughter card inside the PCM. Additionally, with the Isudar module, I didn't have to install an external aftermarket microphone, it uses the stock mic.

After placing the order, the kit arrived fairly quickly (shipped from California) and I committed to the installation on the last Sunday of February. Once installed, pairing my phone to the system went smoothly. However, all sources functioned properly except the audio when in CarPlay mode. CarPlay audio was terrible. Completely inaudible unless the volume was totally maxed, and even then, it was full of static and so soft it was absolutely unusable.

I reached out to Kimi from Isudar via WhatsApp and began the diagnosis process. I utilized a GoPro to record the issues and shared them with Kimi. After trying a number of suggestions, over several weeks due to work commitments, it was determined that the Isudar module was defective, so arrangements were made to send it back to China via USPS (shipped on April 7, 2023). That's a slow process, but I was able to track it's progress through each step of the trip. I had to ship it at my cost, but was told that once received, they would refund the shipping. Once it arrived, they refunded my shipping cost as promised, and let me know that a replacement was on the way.

The replacement finally arrived on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 (again shipped from California), and I had the opportunity to install it last night and the new unit works perfectly.

With a 12 hour time difference, every time I communicated with Kimi, it would be the next day before I got a reply, and another day would go by before Kimi got my reply back. Weekends, when I have the most available time to tinker, added more delays to the communication, but I always received responses as soon as Kimi would return to work.

My final piece of this upgrade was to install a QuadLock Mag Desk Charger in my center console. This allows me to tuck my phone away in the console, magnetically stuck to the desk charger, where it receives a charge while being able to completely control all necessary functions directly from the PCM. It allows me to use Apple, Google, or Waze Maps; Apple, Amazon, or Spotify music apps; Messages; Calendar; Audible, etc.

While it was very disappointing that the initial unit didn't work correctly, and utilizing WhatsApp and GoPro Videos to communicate the problem was a little frustrating and time consuming. In the end, Kimi and Isudar stood by their product, were true to their word, and helped me through the entire process culminating in me being very satisfied with my purchase and the functionality of the system.

I can recommend the Isudar Wireless CarPlay kit to anyone who isn't intimidated working with printed circuit boards, ribbon cables and is willing to remove your PCM and open it up to do the upgrade. The unit cost me $267.94 from the Isudar Website shipped to my house.

I'm glad you got it sorted. Honestly I wasn't even aware of this product. Too bad it took so long to get the replacement. I'm surprised they couldn't send the core replacement from CA (after paying a refundable deposit), then have you mail back the defective board for a refund.

Could you post a picture of that quadlock mount in your car. Now that I've got wireless Android Auto I need a new charging mount.
@RSchwerer here is a photo of the Quad Lock Desk Mag Charger in position in my center console. Works great! Planning to get a shorter USB to USB C cable to get rid of the extra cable clutter, but it works perfectly to hold the phone in position and charge. No fiddling with cables. Just open the console and drop the phone on the charging base.

Thanks. My desktop wireless chargers are very picky about locating the phone correctly centered. Do you have any issues with the phone moving around while driving? I like to pull a few G's in the curves 😈

I previously had a Quad Lock Motorcycle Wireless Charging Head on a Rennline Phone Mount but I didn't like the look of the phone hanging off the side of the console. Once I installed the Isudar CarPlay module, I no longer needed the phone to be accessible for any of the functions I use while driving, so this solved the issue of the ugliness (in my opinion) of having the phone hanging off the console.

I also bought the isudar one year ago but still couldn't decide to rip the whole PCM out. Also I think one has to route a iphone-cable outside the space behind the PCM to connect the phone the first time? This would imply drilling holes in the center console. Or how did you solve that?
There is an opening between the PCM cavity and the trim panel that sits under the steering wheel. You can lay the USB cable in that panel and access whenever you need to update firmware of the Isudar daughterboard in the future. You do not have to connect your phone via the USB cable to setup wireless CarPlay. You do have to connect the wire if you want to stream video to the PCM.

Nothing worse than stuff not working! Glad it is sorted - I use the ZZ2 system, but that requires pro install. That is a great solution as well. Welcome to the forum and visit often!
