My birthday is coming up, so I had to install my 2018/2019 license plate decal today. When I removed one of the two top screws holding the plate and frame to the rear bumper, I noticed that it felt like 1/2 of the screw came out a little too easily. It seems the screw hole on one side is stripped/wallowed out. Is there something back behind the bumper that these screws thread into? Something I could replace?

Thanks for the insights!

If like my car your license plate screws directly into the plastic bumper, the cleanest fix might be to install license plate grommets such as these: https://www.belmetric.com/license-plate-grommets-c-1_32/ I believe this would involve opening and squaring the already-widened hole in the bumper.

Alternatively, you could use a bolt and nut through the bumper, or glue a speed nut to the backside. Good luck!

I don't really understand why Porsche doesn't use these on their cars. It's like a license plate is an afterthought to them. I have already considered fitting them just to know that the plates are fastened on properly.
