Just curious about others' experiences. I went to Squire's Autowerkes for an oil change in my 2006 Cayman S figuring they would use Mobile 1 0W-40 oil. They actually used Mobile 1 15W-50 oil believing it is better for the engine.

I have read the manual and other posts but do not get a sense the 15W-50 is necessarily bad. But I do have a concern with start up wear and tear on the engine with such a thick oil to push through. I do not track my car.

Should I go back and request 0W-40 instead? Or just have them switch to 0W-40 at the 5,000 mile change? Or just stay away from this garage? Thanks.

15W-50 is not a recommended oil weight for modern Porsche engines. In fact, Porsche doesn't recommend using anything heavier than 5W-50, and even that isn't a preferred weight.

I'd recommend having them change out the 15W-50 for Mobil-1 0W-40. No question.
