Owen and Schneider Split Opening Pirelli Cayman Interseries Sprint Races at PCA Peachstate 225 Enduro Weekend at Road Atlanta

Bryn Owen Takes First Career Pirelli Cayman Interseries Win Saturday Morning; Bob Schneider Scores Again at Road Atlanta in Afternoon Race

BRASELTON, Ga. (March 23, 2013) – The Pirelli Cayman Interseries Endurance Cup Championship is back in action at the Porsche Club of America (PCA) Peachstate 225 Enduro at Road Atlanta and two different drivers made it to victory lane Saturday, March 23 in the weekend’s opening pair of sprint races.

Bryn Owen, driving his No. 73 prototype black Cayman S, earned his first Pirelli Cayman Interseries win in Saturday’s first sprint, and former Road Atlanta winner Bob Schneider notched another Georgia victory in the afternoon race. Schneider competes in his white No. 40 Cayman S that carries the Martini Racing livery of the famous “Baby” Porsche 935.

Schneider finished second to Owen in the first race and backed up his strong Pirelli Cayman Interseries showing last September at Road Atlanta when he scored a convincing overall sprint race win.

Joe Courtney, off of his solid Interseries debut in the season-opening 48 Hours of Sebring weekend, crossed the finish line in third place in the morning sprint. Courtney, who drives the No. 771 Cayman S that features an interpretation of the paint scheme made famous by the Gulf Porsche 917s, also finished second in the afternoon sprint. He joined Schneider as the only Pirelli Cayman Interseries drivers to double up on podium appearances on Saturday.

Saturday’s other podium finisher was Brazil’s Eduardo de Souza Ramos who finished third in the second race at the wheel of his white and orange No. 5 Cayman S modeled after a long-tail 1969 Porsche 908 that raced in Europe. Ramos set the fastest Interseries race lap in the morning race and then raced to the top three that afternoon in his first ever start at Road Atlanta.

The Road Atlanta weekend schedule continues Sunday with the featured Peachstate 225 Enduro.

Running exclusively in 2013 on PCA race event weekends, Road Atlanta is the second of eight races on this year’s Pirelli Cayman Interseries calendar. Nearly all of the events will be held at other iconic racing venues, including Watkins Glen, Virginia International Raceway, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Road America and Daytona International Speedway, in addition to Sebring.

This year also marks the first appearance of both the PCA and Pirelli Cayman Interseries at the new Circuit of The Americas, the world-class Formula 1 track in Austin, Texas, May 10 – 12.

This may seem like a stupid question, but do racers buy their own cars and race with them or are there teams that hire racers?!
