I'm traveling next week for a week to Philippines. I'm going on a business trip for two days then I'm off on my own. It'll be my first time there.

It would be a good chance for me to meet any of our P9 fellows there. If nobody here lives there, I'd appreciate guidance from those who have been there.

I'm into everything from relaxing at the beach to extreme adventures and shark diving.

So far I have on my list:
1) whale shark diving
2) thresher shark diving
3) escape hunt experience

Anything else I should do?
Is there a local market in Manila similiar to the Floating Market in Bangkok or Street Markets of Delhi?
Sports cars racing rentals?
Extreme adventures like abseiling or canyoning?

Thanks for your help in advance.

It's More Fun in the Philippines » Pagsanjan Falls, Laguna

Pagsanajan falls, where they filmed Apocalypse Now, nice trip in a dug out canoe, amazing falls the end. Watch out of the monkeys, they will steal anything out of your top pocket-specially credit cards-then disappear into the jungle-only to have their handler call them back when you have left. Lot of WW11 history around in Manila. Manila and Makati night life is 'exciting' in every sense of the word, be careful!

You nailed it !!! Absolutely interesting and unique from the rest of my activities. Add to that it's close to Manila; ie 2 hours drive.

Thank you

Can you elaborate on that, please?

If you mean by exciting escort girls (I'm putting it in a nice way), no I'm not into that. If you mean theaters and shows like Vegas and NY definitely I'm in. If you mean exciting like Pattaya Walking Street, then I'm not interested.

i'm going back in a few months and will be a bit more mature this time and enjoy the tourist spots as well.

Can you please visit the customer service office of Sirius XM satellite radio and ask them for their best renewal deal? They are located there...
Can't this be done over the phone or via email?

I've done it in Ötztal, Austria few years ago... Loved it back then so much through the Alps and across the river.

Hassaan, if you can spare the time, I hear there are some nice beaches in boracay....
Yep I am going there inshallah... I extended my stay to ten days to enjoy Manila, Cebu and Boracay. I'll finalize the itinerary this weekend. Lemon here @ P9 is helping me a lot along with the all of you gentlemen contributing to this thread.

Thank you...

I guess it all depends what you're into. I like it quiet and relaxing.

Boracay is not the same from15 years ago. If you're into partying/drinking, go for it. If you want even a little quiet time, forget it. Go to Palawan instead. Here are a few links:

As a friend of mine always say: "a bundle of thanks". Boracay seems an absolute nightmare. I don't drink nor party like an animal. I'm 43 years old, not a teenager. And I never stayed in hostels, thank God. Pizza Hut on vacations?!! When I travel I enjoy local cuisines only... plus I didn't eat at Pizza Hut in decades. Pizza is meant to be Italian only.

I'll check Palawan as an alternative. Otherwise, I'd stick to Manila, Cebu and diving destinations.

Ok so I talked to customer support today and sure enough they are in the Philippines. I asked about places for you to go and the woman suggested Boracay and Palawan. Don't know any more than that, but you might want to check them both out...

Thank you Ken and every gentleman for your recommendations and suggestions.

Last night I finalized the itinerary as I'll be going to Oslob for whale shark snorkeling then Malapascua for Thresher Shark diving along with other seasonal types of shark. Then I'll head back to Manila for further adventures in Pagsanjan falls.

After spending four nights in Manila/Makati, this morning I reached Cebu city. I can't express enough how beautiful these islands, how kind the people and how delicious the food is. How I wish one can have a place in Makati or Cebu for retirement!

Oh and Lemon, yesterday we went to Dampa... It was an epic feast. Our host was the wife of your ex-minister for transport after concluding a multi-million dollars deal with her firm. One day I met with Xavier; a celebrity chef who knows all hot shots of the country. It was an interesting meeting as well.

Thank you Lemon for all your PMs, suggestions and follow-ups. And thank you all, gentlemen.

I stayed at the Atlantis dive resorts in Dumaguete and Puerto Galera. Both had great diving, I preferred the Dumaguete resort, it felt more like a tropical island while Puerto Galera is right in town. But both are a bit of a trip from Manilla.
