One of the (many) reasons I don't live in Australia any more is the "draconian speeding laws." They use all known forms of speed enforcement (laser, unmanned traps, red lights, etc.) and the penalties are very high. I don't know how Aussies can own fast cars and enjoy them. Maybe that's why Targa Tasmania is so popular!
With all the crime and bad driving we see, so many police still focus only on speeding. That's because it's the easiest activity, and presents minimal risk. Those are not good reasons to ignore crime and bad driving.
