It was a great day today in Daytona for Porsche cars. The Grand Sport Class was won by Team Rum Bum driving a 911, while the StreatcTuner class was won by Team RSI driving a Cayman.

The Plumb brothers driving the 911 were challenged most of the race by a Mustang and Camaro until the last 20 minutes where the 911 got faster and the other cars faded. The Street Tuner class was complete dominated by Caymans.

Curious- those all seem to be 987s- have the rules handicapped the 981?

I watched the race on IMSA.com. It was pretty good, commercial free, coverage. The 911 look planted, had demonstrably better aero and appeared to do well on fuel mileage which particularly killed the Mustangs. The fact that the Caymans swept ST leads me to expect, based on how the NASCAR owned series behaved last year and when they owned the Rolex series, that the Caymans may carry a penalty of more weight and/or smaller intake restrictor to even the field. Unless, of course, they understand that the aero ability of Cayman was a major plus at a high speed, long straight track like Daytona and not so much at the next race in Sebring. Regardless, nice to see the success.
