does anyone here know how to remove/pull out the hazard switch on a cayman?

it's located in the center of the dash, between the two air vents. i want to investigate it as a possible mounting spot for phone/navi (think the location is good).

any tips or helpful input would be much appreciated.

At first I was going to say you PUSH it in to turn on the hazards not pull it then I see you want the spotfor something else. :) I haven't looked at the wiring harness back there to see if there is a clip on the back side that would prevent prying it outwards, I guess I would try some gentle prying first to see if it is just press-fit on and if so it might come off and you have your question answered, if not, then there might be a clip. Someone with PET could look and seeif PET shows more detail about it. One other option is to pull your radio using the articles here and stick your hand in there and see if you can feel up in that area to get to the back side of it, I don't recall whether or not that's possible since it's been awhile since my radio was out. I don't think you can, but it might be worth a try in the absence of anything else to go on.

haha well thanks for telling me to push it in to turn on the hazard flashers!

kidding aside i tried the prying route but the switch is in there really tight. i am afraid of wrecking/creasing the dash in the surrounding area, so i haven't levered on it too much.

i could pull the radio but am hoping someone here might know if there's a magic trick - kinda like with the main light switch, which i would have never figured without a tip!

Begin by removing the PCM/Radio. There are other articles that cover this. Then follow the instructions below.

hey jim,
thanks for sharing the concern. i wouldn't disable it - just relocate it. it would go well into the center console near the ashtray.

what i like about the idea of mounting a phone cradle at that location is that the power cable could be fed thru the mounting point (taking the place of the haz switch), get a clean look, while getting the phone within fingertip distance to the steering wheel.

mark,
awesome. that must have taken you some time to pull & post. how do you get access to this info? thanks very much for bothering to get this info and post it here!

looks like a fair amount of work - ugh. i've pulled 1/2 the radio stack a couple of times (escort install, short shifter install) but am a little worried that pulling the whole stack is a whole day!

i wonder whether the radio stack really needs to get pulled out. what do you think?

The PCM/Radio needs to come out so you have proper access to the vents and the hazard switch from the bottom. You will only need to fully remove the PCM/Radio. The HVAC Control Module, Switch Module, and Center Stack Cubby can all remain in place although you might need to pull the HVAC control unit out a little ways to get better access to the PCM/Radio. Pulling the PCM/Radio should not be difficult. Anymore it takes me about an hour to pull it.
