The M97 engine is very good and will not cause you any problems unless you track the car or increase the grip to a very high output on the road where you will have traction like you do in a track (by using super sticky semislicks & good racing suspencion).

If you want to track your car a series of modifications must be made in order to be safe, I personnally had broken my engine (3.8 X51) the very first day I went in track because I did not know aobout its weakness in oil starvation.

Check the following link of what you need for race use

In any case you should also buy the X51 oil pan & an extencion for the sump. You will find many companies doing these kits, I personnally baught them from suncoast :

I currently track the car with full slicks & have no problem at all after the modifications.

More of the same, you shouldn't see a problem on the street but if you track your car there are extra protections you should take as listed above and in several topics on this site. Welcome to the site, have a look around, and hope you find a Cayman you like soon, they really are terrific cars!

I haven't done anything to my engine, the whole car is basically stock and have been tracking for about 8K miles, no issues. I am no authority on this matter, but if you stay away from slick racing tires during track days, you should not worry about the engine. I use semi-race tires, Toyo R888s, and as I mentioned, I have had no issues at all, besides being slow on the track :)
