Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get more track oriented tires for my stock 20" wheels on a 718 S. Was leaning towards the re71r because it actually comes in 20" but the widths don't match with stock. Do any of you guys use this tire with the stock 20" wheels? If so, what tire size would you recommend?

If there's another tire you think would work well, please let me know. I wanted to get the hankook r-s4 but it doesn't seem to come in 20".

Thanks!

Amended - see post #5. These should fit just fine. I run them in 19" sizes on my 981 Cayman S track wheels, base suspension, 7mm spacers being used. The only issue with rubbing with the 285s if your suspension has been lowered.

245/35/20s on front

Thanks. Just ordered in that spec. Only have SPASM on a 718 S - stock alignment and everything else suspension related. What PSI do you find works well for these tires (hot)? Have a 3 day PCA event this week so looking forward to giving them a try.

I would have thought 285/30/20 or 295/30/20 would have been better on the rear? The latter being GT4 spec.

For anyone that sees this in the future, 245/35/20 does NOT fit with the stock 718 S wheels. The rim isn’t wide enough according to my installer. They couldn’t get the tire to pop on. Rears are no issue for width.

Re. GT4 size, yea I could have done the GT4 spec in the rear. Isn’t really a problem with the width.

Interesting - I just looked at the wheel sizes and discovered with the 718 model, there are both 8" wide 20" wheel sets, and 8.5" wide 20" wheel sets - so it matters which wheel you have to know if it might fit. Here is a list of them all on suncoast's site: https://www.suncoastparts.com/category/718CG2SCHASWS.html Just to be clear, PCSCARS can you confirm what wheel set you have on your car? My set of 255/35/19 fit on 8.5" wheels.

I've got the 20" "Carrera S" wheel design in platinum satin. On a 2017 718 Cayman S. Suncoast has them listed as one of the 8" wide designs. Too bad! I really wanted to give them a try with the stock 20". No good track tires come in sizes that will fit these stock rims. The 235 is the max the fronts can handle for width. Unless I just need to find a different shop. I didn't think going form 235 > 245 would be an issue at all.

I'm trying to hold off on buying dedicated track wheels since I'm ordering 718 GT4 when pdk is available next fall. Would rather make do with my stock wheels for the rest of this season and next summer season.

I use RE-71R on 19” OZ ultra leggera (or something like that) wheels. Been working like a champ for me. I have the 20” Carrera S wheels OEM. One comment about those wheels— I initially assumed (out of total newbie ignorance) they were the same as the ones from the 911- they’re called carrera after all- but they’re not. The style is the same but the wheels are different. So when you see different wheels on suncoast with the same name, I assume that’s what you’re seeing. The same style name but for different models. The 911 wheels are much wider than the mid engines’.

Yep, 718 Carrera S wheels are 8" on the front, but I would have thought you could squeeze a 245.

718 Carrera Sport wheels are 8.5" on the front and 1/2" wider on the back also at 10.5".

I have seen someone put GT4 spec width Cup 2s 245/295 on their Carrera S wheels without any reported issues, but it is surely at the limit.

Hmm maybe the Cup 2 would just work better for some reason? They tried for 30 mins with 2 people and took me to the machine to show me. It just wasn't going. I've been going to this place for 7 years (they only do tires) and I trust their experience. They have multiple tire machines and tried it on 3 different ones just to be sure. No luck. Might be literally right at the edge for what's possible on the 8" wheels. The shop guys said that usually 245 can be made to work on 8" but for some reason the combination of the Carrera S + 71R just didn't work.
