I see this all the time, and it makes no sense. Somebody selling a Porsche with a salvage title, but claims it is just for minor bump or in the case below "scratches"
As I understand it, here in California a salvage title is given to a car when the repairs are more expensive that repairing the damage. That must have been one hell of a scratch for a $40k car! Are all these just scams?

Not all scams, but you have to do your homework. Not sure if it still happens today, but in the past 5-8 years it use to be pretty easy to wash a salvage title through certain states to get a clean title. Buyer beware.

Craigslist is a bit sketchy to begin with, but it's easy enough to be diligent. The seller has the car near retail price for a non-salvage title. You should be able to run a Carfax and get a PPI on the car before getting close to buying it.
