I have searched and am still looking for a conclusive answer. My question is can I just replace the stock ASK speakers with something aftermarket? I know that the door woofer is an odd size and I would need to take that into account.

I am not an audiophile by any means but I do like quality.

If I can just replace the speakers does anyone have any recommendations regarding speakers that work well with the stock system.

The OP in this thread indicated that s/he replaced the stock speakers with Rockford Fosgate P142 and P1675-S. Whereas in post #16 in this thread, the poster indicated that s/he installed Rockford Fosgate R14X2 and R1675-S.

According to post #2 in this thread, depending upon your sound package, the tweeters in the dash are 19mm, the midranges in the doors are 100mm and the mid base in the doors are 200mm.

Not sure if anyone has had any experience with these or the company(I have not); but during a search I ran across these speaker adapters from Car Audio Innovations already made to support standard speakers. Link is below:

Depending on budget and ease of install desired, it may be worth consideration?

Are there any concerns regarding impedance with using aftermarket speakers with the stock amp?

Modern amps are typically stable operating into loads between 4 and 16 ohms. Having said that, stock amps are typically made as cheap as possible and may have issues if driving 4 ohms speakers. If you stick to 8 ohm after market speakers you'll probably be fine. However, I personally wouldn't turn the volume full up using speakers that have lower impedance than what came with the stock amp.
