Sport vs Sport Plus
Yesterday at the track I was chatting with one of the instructors whose own car was a 981 Cayman S. He said he tracks the car in Sport and not Sport Plus bec the car behaves the same as it does in Sport Plus but if he starts to lose the car the Sport leaves some of the nannies in place to get the car settled vs in Sport Plus the nannies are turned off and even a good driver can be more likely to lose control of the car. Thoughts please? I would particularly like to hear from someone who really knows the technology as opposed to Urban Legend stories.
Thank you in advance

Sports + come only with the Sport Chrono Package. Should have same throttle response & enhanced rev-limiter increase for max acceleration and rev-matching as the Sports button. Below is the script from the Port he 981 Cayman brochure. Owners of GTS (came with standard SPC) or those who optioned SPC can validate your query.

Good stuff. Thanks Ed
From that description it sounds like the guy is right. With sports button all the nannies are in place with some of the more sports functions including exhaust and high rev pdk shift change. Its only with sport plus you get the dynamic shift, pasm hardening and psm relaxing is boundaries. Also the shift points seem more aggressive again with plus imo

I can only tell you direct experience. I don't have SportPlus, only Sport. I never turn off nannies on the track.

In addition to everything that guy said, I can tell you that Porsche nannies are so beautifully tailored that they will stay off as long as you are driving properly. You can certainly use all the tools you have in the toolbox to rotate the car into or out of the corner and they will not flinch if the move is done right. As they say, they will give you all the rope you need to play to your heart's wish, but never enough to hang yourself.

Well, let me amend that last statement. Sometimes physics are faster than nannies and consequences are too heavy for them to do anything about it. This is mid-engined car, never forget that. If they go and once they go, things happen so fast that nannies might not help you. I was lucky to spin 450 degrees and not hit anything on very cold track after passing through the puddle of water. Give the car the respect on the track and don't count on nannies to solve 100% of your mistakes. That said, though, when physics are favorable, keep the nannies on anyway - I still do it as a teaching tool, that's how well they are made. If they blink, I always assume that limit of the driver was reached, not that of the car and try to improve in the same place next lap.

Enjoy track days, I wish I could go next weekend :)

This is a far cry from removing all the safety measures and pretty sure the only way that is happening is if you manually override traction control. Heck, even then you still have antilock brakes. I'm pretty sure PSM will still save you from anything but the most lurid of actions unless you've turned off settings beyond just hitting the Sport Plus button.
