Hello. Someone is selling a car I'm interested in and they will be taking their private number plate off. How does this work on my end? Do you need to get a new plate for it if they don't have the original? Never been in this scenario before and I can't find anything on the DVLA.

Thanks. In VA the DMV offers a one-way trip permit on their website for ~$20. Other states may. I’ve also “borrowed” a tag from one of my other cars to be a little less conspicuous.

With the way the DMVs are backed up now, paper tags are a common sight.
