While changing the cabin air filter on my 09 Cayman S, I found a bracket directly in front of the filter. Probably for a option my car does not have. Any one know what it would be used for. It is also on a 987.1 cayman, but unused like mine.

The car is black and the bracket, and internal metal also black. I place a white rag below the bracket to make it more apparent in the photos. The front of the car is to the right of the photo.

My 07' doesn't have that bracket. It does look like some kind a bracket for holding up the plastic trim pieces that has to be removed to access the filter.

The bracket is at least 6 inches in front of the filter. It has two bolts that are vertical about 1 inch long. The threads are still the original paint no scuffing or marking. The filter access has a bright metal with 4 screws over the edge of the filter, no way is it connected to this bracket.

I guess it doesn't matter what it was used for, curiosity and all that. Thanks for the reply
