I need to get a set of rear tires for my 987.1S. The front ones are Michelin Pilot PS2, so I figured I should get the same for the rear. So I went to Discount Tire Direct to get pricing. There were two Pilot PS2s available. There were two differences between the tires: one is an 'SL' the other an 'XL'. The other difference was price... the SL were $70.00 more per tire. After learning what both abbreviations meant, I figured the XL, given its extra reinforcement, would be the more expensive tire. But it was the Standard Load (SL) tire that cost more. Why?

I'd like to save myself $140.00. Would I notice much of a ride difference if I decided to get the XL over the SL?

Not sure the answer to your dilemma, but I'd also ask for a verification of the date codes before buying, or at least get some assurances to a range that's acceptable to you. I've seen some floating around that are several years old and, depending on your annual usage, may not suit your needs long term.
