Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

That's too bad. I trust Evo to be more honest than Motor Trend.

Well, I'm ready to test drive one, and decide for myself...
Pretty much this. I definitely respect Evo more than other publications out there but it is unusual for them to be this scathing. Perhaps they had too much expectation and are failing to be objective. But personally now that I have a Porsche, dealerships will allow me to test drive them now that I am part of the 'in' crowd. i think I might go and drive the new 911 and the new 718s some time soon and form my own opinions!

That said once I read through the review it did not seem that bad as in terms of price it still is a very competitive package compared to the jag and what not.

Not at all interested in your political views. Also, you might want to check the terms you agreed to when you signed up to use the site: no political discussion of any kind allowed.
Agreed and I would also like to add yuck to McDonald's and budweiser!

I for one welcome electric and alternative fuel vehicles. I adore a proper driving experience no matter what the modern propulsion system is. There are amazing turbocharged machines out there. Look at the 488! It's just gonna take folks some time and porsche a few iterations and then turbocharged cars will be widely accepted. Heck I hated the v6 turbo f1 era. But I love them now! They ain't slow and they sound great albeit different. Same will happen with the 718. Porsche aint stupid. If not then I will count myself lucky and fondly remember the days of yore when there was such a thing as an a naturally aspirated internal combustion engine!

Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

When I bought my Boxster in 2013, the SA told me that their dealership was very concerned about the Cayennes they sold, to whom and where they ended up. Suposedly, there exists, a very lucrative smuggling racket for Cayennes in China because of the huge waiting periods, upto a year or more. Unless he was BSing me, Porsche apparently keeps a close eye on their dealers in the US to make sure that they are not enabling this smuggling.

Tell you what I believe your SA.

Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

That's very good Hassaan. At least a Noble Prize I would say lol.

To all the others, I apologize for bringing a political slant to my post, I typically think of politics as more of supporting a candidate or a party and being generally off topic. Since I believe it was mandates created by politicians that has at least to my knowledge compelled Porsche and others to start turbo charging their engines, I let my antagonism at this get carried away in the context of the turbo 4 topic. Frankly, I consider myself an independent and dislike politics and politicians across the board for the most part. I am glad this forum is free of politics and again my apologies to anyone offended.

What I wanted to say and should have said originally instead of going into a rant is that I hope we all continue to live in a world where we are free to choose and drive those automobiles that stir our passion. Whether they contain large NA petrol engines, small turbos or hybrid solutions. I imagine we all feel grateful for being able to enjoy such wonderful cars every day.

Cheers
Well said and I agree with you. However I personally must admit I do feel a twinge of guilt because whilst I am not a tree hugger I am indeed concerned about the future of our planet. If I have children I want to leave the planet for them in the least ****ed up way as possible. Pardon my language just couldn't think of a stronger word to make my point for me. Global warming is happening. I am not going to go in to man made or not. We all have certain responsibilities and car manufacturers are being mandated to produce efficient cars. I think that is definitely a step in the right direction. I am fairly confident there will come a time when we as enthusiasts will get the holy grail of power, sound, performance, and fuel efficiency in our vehicles. At least i am optimistic! if not well then like I said before we can be happy thinking about the good old days or just keep driving our 'dinosaur' 981s haha

Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

I think great engine noises will not be part of that equations. Some day, electric cars are going to be phenomenal. They'll get the weight down to make them handle better and the power is obviously already there as evidenced in what Tesla is doing. Sound though? Nope. We're just gonna have to get more excited about wind noise and screeching tires.
You are probably more right than I would like to believe but as a famous Audi race engineer/director once mentioned that noise is wasted energy. Perhaps speaker sounds? :)

Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

For what it's worth, the reviews convinced me... to buy a C7 Z51 instead of waiting for the 718 Cayman.

Nice! I think I would be ok with that choice too personally though I can't get over how shoddy the build quality is even on a Z06! Walked away and straight in to the arms of a Spyder!

I like nav systems in a sports car. I don't get proper signal everywhere so yeah nav is important when I'm exploring roads. I don't care for a leather dash or seats or trim. Alcantara is great. I like carbon fiber everything hence the LWBS. If there was a carbon shifter and steering wheel I would get that too. And I'm definitely a six-a-holic! The 718 has an ugly rear and I don't like the crap motor they put in it. Is it faster than a 981? Duh it has to be! Or else it ain't progress! But I'd take a fractionally slower flat 6 naturally aspirated motor over a 4 cylinder turbo motor. That's why I bought a 981 Spyder and not a Nissan GT-R. Great car just not for me. Don't like the turbocharging in a sports car. I don't hate the 718. I just wish it didn't have that black stripe in the rear or the turbo motor. Here's hoping porsche leaves the gt3 models unmolested and they keep making limited runs of gt4 and Spyder in the future in six-a-holic formats!

I wonder what everyone did before GPS? Hmm.

Come on chow4us I am not gonna bust out a paper map! I am part of the digital generation I gotta get on with the times! Also I use the GPS as a safety feature too. Zoom in real close on a twisty road I have no prior knowledge about to get an idea about the turn that's coming up next. It helps sort of like rally driver pace notes in a way :)
