I actually like this thread. Its like brexit or trump getting elected. People have an opinion and want to be heard. Technically the radiational isnt correct because (sadly) compared to competition, the 718 is the same but better and it is everything the 981 is plus more, but people standing up saying "I don't care - there is more to it than being better' is nice.

Hate to say it but Porsche is indeed a SUV company. If they'd cared more, they'd make the 911 or boxster/Cayman more desirable so they sell more volume...but that is worse for profit since making fewer cars means more margin. Even though they sell more SUVs, I bet they make more profit from sports cars sales per unit.

I see the appeal of their SUVs...until I check an AUDI or VW (or even Honda). which are mostly the same, but cheaper. No idea why people pick the Porschs MAcan instead of the others...of its just that Posche sales are so low that the "mainstream" SUV buyers are getting all the attention.

Interesting times in the auto industry. From what I see so far, Asian, American, and niche brands are slowly becoming more desirable. Porsche has become a boring cash cow.

I suspect the 718 will be a less than 2 year run till they switch to hybrid in the boxster/Cayman redesign. The question is will people like it...probably not...they'll prefer what other brands are doing to appeal to their emotions (NA v8 engines from GM, character from FCA, luxury/ AWD from Audi, and etc).

I think their small panerama is their next big thing, but think it's going to be a tough sale with such a competitive market. What's sad is show far behind Porsche is with autonomous driving or aids.

AI is already here to allow self driving cars. Do some google...you'd be surprised how well it works. Nvidia is leading in making specialized CPUs and other hardware. They have version 2.0 recently, which is a mini super computer designed to be completely turn key for cars and will likely be installed in many brands in the coming years. Technology is already here to make it happen...its the lazy manufacturers that are too slow to implement or accept it. All they have to do is install the motherboard looking thing that plugs into cameras/ sensors. The rest is software and development is good enough for it to work. Tesla is foremost in implementing, but lots of others are working on it.

FYI, there is little unique between car makers. They all get their hardware from the same providers. For example, youll find Bosche written all over electronic parks in a Porsche or cheapest GM product. Fun fact...same company makes Corvette and Porsche seats.
