Can anyone confirm that the X73 optional suspension from the 981 can be used on a 718 (base) with no modifications?

Seems to me to be the most cost effective suspension upgrade vs going to full coil overs?

I can't remember where, might have been on RenNist, but at least one 718 owner has installed X73 springs. He measured the heights and it was very similar to 718 PASM - sport springs.

The springs are interchangeable between the 981 and 718, although I believe the spring rates were revised on the 718.

If you buy H&R, KW HAS and I think Techart for the 718 you are actually getting 981 springs and they will be a little lower than X73.

It was me who fitted the X73 to MY19 Boxster S. All parts (struts & sway bars) are a straight bolt on. Works great. I used 981-044-400-01 981 Boxster 2012-2013 X73 Suspension Kit (Sports Chassis) For PDK Transmission. Ride height very similar to PASM Sport, a couple of mm lower in front, rear same - rides great. I planned to put it on when I ordered my car because I don't like PASM (deliberately built without it) and had X73 on 981 & found it fantastic.

I actually did the changeover myself (didn't get a workshop to do it), that's how I know it works.

Also put on 991.2S 6 spot front calipers & 350mm rotors, 981 Spyder 4 spot rear calipers & 330mm rotors, 991.2S brake master cylinder & 3rd radiator.

All factory parts bolt right up if you know the part numbers.

Very nice upgrade. What did the brake parts end up costing and where did you source them from?

I’m a bit new to the Porsche world, in fact looking for my first P-car now, a 718 Cayman S. Possibly looking for a CPO car so wondering if I find one without PASM, of a later X73 install would be an option.

Can you tell me why you said you specifically spec’ed the car without PASM just to later add X73? What’s the difference between the two, etc?

A couple of reasons:

1. Every car I've had electronic suspension on (Porsche, VW, Audi, BMW) I left it on 1 setting all the time which wasn't exactly perfect for me, but acceptable. The novelty of changing settings doesn't last long.
2. I had a 981 with X73 & it was the best suspension I've had in a car (all round ride & handling). I worked out that the 718 is basically the same regards the suspension (had a look at the parts manuals to verify). As it isn't a factory option for the 718, I decided I was going to install it from day 1 just as I did with the brake upgrades & the third radiator which we also NOT factory options.
I had the 340mm 991.1 front brakes only on my 981 boxster & decided I'd go further with the 718S as per the above. All part of the master plan. Why, because I wanted to, liked what I had in the 981 & enjoy "toying" with every car I get. I do all the work myself, no dealership or other people involved, so I'm talking first hand here.
I drove the car straight from the dealer & pulled it apart in my garage & made the changes (ordered & had all the parts before the car was built & delivered).
3.In the unlikely future event of an out of warranty replacement being required, things get real expensive real quick. I plan on keeping this car for a while.

And by the way, when I took the car to the dealer to get wheel aligned to my specs (they actually do a great wheel alignment + plug the PIWIS in for the same price as anywhere else) they had no clue as to the suspension, brakes & third radiator changes made - all Porsche parts/part #'s.....

Different deal if bringing in with Ohlins, KW, factory Brembo, etc.

@fontana302: I love it! Right on! Your response alone made me look where you are because I wanted to buy you a beer! :) too bad you’re just about directly on the other side of this world. I’m gonna have to owe you one :)
I’ve got a line on two cars right now, should know Monday/Tuesday, depends which way it goes, I may have some more follow questions.

Meanwhile, mind telling me how the car (718) drove before and after the suspension make-over? Thanks!

Double thumbs up. Your my kind'a guy. I, too, am an inveterate tinkerer who enjoys (or perhaps can't help) "tweaking" my cars to my liking. I am also of the same mindset as you, I.e. to first peruse the Porsche parts catalog to search for fool-proof, tested parts for these upgrades. Thank you for sharing the list of part numbers to save others the effort. Well done, sir!
