No Front Plate in TX - Legislation

Legislation has been introduced that would not require luxury vehicles to have a front license plate in Texas.
Rep. Ken King (R-Dist. 88) introduced House Bill 673, which would add luxury vehicles to the list of vehicles that do not need a front license plate.
Tractors, motorcycles, trailers and semitrailers are already on the list.
The bill defines luxury vehicles as a passenger car worth more than $60,000.

Let Rep King know you support him.

Curious distinction on who should have one and who shouldn't, don't you think? And why is that? Does the guy with the hooptie need more scrutinizing? Most states that eliminated the requirement did it for all vehicles and to save the state the cost associated with manufacturing, shipping, and enforcement.:drivingskid:

I'm in Houston and have never had my front bumper drilled so have never had a front plate on my 981 CS. Been driving that way for over 3 years now. Never been pulled over for it. I do hear that in different parts of Texas (Austin) you are more likely to get pulled over. Regardless, I would just pay the fine. No way would I ever put that on my car. My wife's Lexus GS does not have it either and it's a daily driver. Never been pulled over. It's a ridiculous requirement and really takes away from the look of the car IMO. This new legislation should be for all vehicles. Why discriminate.

I agree - it's ridiculous. When I drove a 3 series, I was pulled over three times for not having a plate. Twice by state troopers in Central Texas, and once late at night by an intrepid Dallas police officer who pulled me over inside my condo complex about 45 feet from my open garage door. Each time, I was given a warning (but the second state trooper sternly told me that he saw in his system that I had been pulled over by a trooper for this before, and he'd best not find me a third time, or a ticket would surely follow.)

FYI:

We'll leave the opinions about whether cars should be saddled with front license plates to the comments section—that said but we would like to to conclude by pointing something out to Representative King. The Chevrolet Corvette you cite as the sort of car that should be from the blemish of a Lone Star plate? It has a starting MSRP of $55,900. Which means, by your own bill's definition, your 'Vette-driving voters will still have to screw a rectangle onto the front of their cars.

I live in Houston and have not had a front plate since 1980. Got stopped in Athens, Tx in my 10 year old 911 and the officer apologized for stopping me in my "brand new" car and gave me a warning ticket. That was in about 1989. That is the only time I have ever been stopped.

Stupid law. I have one of those tow hook screw in things that I leave in my frunk. I bought one to tell the officer I just got the car washed and forgot to put it back on. Not sure if that will float as it's never been assembled and is still in the original packaging.
