987.2 CS – Making it angry (no drone option), headers?

I’ve been reading everything I can find about the topic, how to make the 987.2 exhaust note not so darn quiet but also not drony. I’ve almost decided that I’d choose the Carnewal GT exhaust + Carnewal 200cel cats (which also removes the secondary cats) but not sure if it’s the most aggressive option without the massive drone. Would still love some additional / most recent feedback from different setups.

First I was about to go with Fabspeed race exhaust / headers but was concerned about annoying the neighbours a tad too much and not passing the emissions test. Also the drone I heard would be quite bad.

Too bad I have no one here in Finland with these setups to test it in real life so I made another thread hoping someone would have experienced both Carnewal sport cats and Fabspeed race exhaust with 200cel cats (or something similar).

Some valved option of course would be the best but won’t invest +4k€ in an exhaust.

The Carnewal mod gets consistently good reviews. I've had both NHP catless short tube headers paired with PSE on a 987.1 Cayman and and Soul catless competition long tube headers paired with PSE on a 987.1 Boxster S. Both cars sound "sporting/responsible" in normal mode and "grin inducing" in sport mode.

I would recommend replacing the headers first. 200-cell cats will give you more sound and power. Sticking as close as possible to stock will minimize drone so Carnewal solution seems appropriate. I have 200-cell long-tube headers by Soul and Carnewal-modded mufflers on my Cayman and really like the setup. There is some drone (at around 2200rpm) but it doesn't really bother me. I don't think there is a way to completely eliminate drone with any aftermarket setup.

Re: 987.2 CS – Making it angry (no drone option), headers?

I posted videos with Carnewal Cat Back and stock headers; then Carnewal Cat Back with Soul Performance Catted Headers.

Follow this thread to post 63 for links to the videos

After a couple of months of driving, I attest to almost no drone at any speed. The videos do not do justice to the setup. If I ease on the throttle, the exhaust is calm, deep and throaty like a proper flat six. If I get on the throttle it comes to life. Around 5500 rpm up to redline, it sounds like the tips will tear off. My tune also creates a slight crack on rev match down shift at certain rpms. I cannot be more happy with the setup.

Thank you for all the positive comments about SOUL, everyone!

Our HJS HD 200 cell Long Tube Street Headers seem like a great starting point for you. The headers will yield greater power gains and response than the exhaust and this comes without any smelly fumes or check engine lights. From there you can decide how to finish off your exhaust - valvetronic / non-valved to meet your needs. We've had situations where people mod the rear exhaust first, then get headers and find the sound to be too aggressive. Anyone here at SOUL would be happy to chat about all the options you have on the table (we have experience with many combinations and different brands) to help you get what you need.

Rlazer, that sounds exactly what I’m after.

Mike: does the .2 scream as much as .1 with 200cel headers? Also, have you got an idea how much more noise the Soul headers will make compared to modified stock headers (200cel + secondary removal)?
