I wouldn't... Just my opinion but alcantara is the most overrated, trumped up synthetic material I've ever seen in a car. On a steering wheel I think it would wear poorly. I have it as seat panels. I'd sooner find a place to sew some sweet glove leather on it with a deviated stitch color, maybe a band of color leather at 12 o'clock that matches the stitching.
The 2008 Cayman Design Edition 1 came with am Alcantara steering wheel as did the Cayman S Sport models also made in 2008. So it's likely available from Porsche albeit at an expensive price.
We provide repair, leathering and re-leathering service for all types of steering wheels to restore, customize, or improvie the interior of your car or boat.
I have the alcantara wrapped Sport Design wheel. Occasional wipe with a damp cloth and a pass with a suede brush keeps it looking good and feeling nice. Not sure I’d spec it on a new order but I’m glad my car had it when purchased.
Check out East Side Detailing online and on Instagram. They make kits that you can do yourself to recover your wheel and its much cheaper than other options.
Yep. I saw their site. Looks quite good. The problem for me is suck at doing this kind of work. I found a local upholstery shop that might do it for me. If so I am going to get one of their kits. Thanks for the heads up.
