Hi all!
Glad to have found this page. I'm dealing with a long term battery drain and need some advanced insight. First, the vehicle is a 2005 Cayenne Turbo with 187k miles and a good maintenance history. My battery drain appears to be very severe as it goes dead in under 12 hours, but after a few weeks of searching, I'm coming up with no answers.
Here's what I've done;
1. Tested battery and found it to be in excellent condition. No damaged cells and excellent CCA rating.
2. Verified that the alternator is charging adequately and make sure that the accessory belt and connections were all tight.
3. Verified ALL fuses to have zero draw (save for the few that monitor the modules) and tested the voltage drop across every single fuse.
4. Tested the alternator by removing it from the power system, but drain still exists on the multi-meter
5. Disconnected starter and verified all grounds and connections in that area were good and the starter functions exactly as expected.
6. Pulled each and every relay and every fuse without finding what is causing the drain
With all of that having been done multiple times, here's what I can tell you as to how I believe this to have happened. The previous owner apparently tired to fix the headliner himself and broke off one of the drain ports from the sunroof, but neglected to tell me this before it rained and got water under the driver's side carpeting. I removed all of the carpeting and dried it completely and made sure to repair the terrible factory wire splices with proper heat shrink and soldered connections. I have sealed the sunroof with rubberized tape to keep it water tight until I can replace or repair the sunroof drain issue. I have been trying to pull various accessible modules and verify the draw's source, but it remains.
Is there anyone out there who has dealt with this exact issue and might be able to tell me what modules and/or electrical parts are most likely to cause a parasitic drain so bad that it will kill the battery in under 12 hours?
Thanks so much!!!
