Yes, on GenII cars, the front side markers both blink w/turn signals and are on with the other marker/running lights. Not sure if they are dual filament or not. Are the replacement (white) markers the same for G1 & G2? If so, it is in the programming - not the wiring.
I'm pretty sure you have to have two filaments to have two brightnesses. With digital wiring, you may be able to power them with only one hot wire and one chassis ground. Not sure about that. I've got a BMW motorcycle with digital wiring and there are a lot less wires required. It's pretty amazing, actually.

Still, if Gen 1 doesn't have that option in the computer, you can't reprogram the thing, only select one or the other.

I have a 987.1 and had no idea that the side markers do not blink when you hit the turn signal. I thought this was the whole purpose of the side lights. Aren't they required to blink by law in the US? So odd.
I believe the turn signals do need to be visible from the side, but since our tail lights wrap around to the side, that probably qualifies as 'visible from the side'.

Just checked my Gen2 and with running lights on, the turn signal blinks off-on-off-on....
So there is only one brightness. A single fileament is all that is needed.

If the windows are down sufficiently to reduce interior air-pressure (or a door is open), you can easily close the hatch without pressing on the lid. Just use the hand-hold on the underside of the hatch (part of the interior trim). All it takes is a flick of the wrist. No pressing required - and no palm-prints on the finish.
So after you close the trunk with this option do the windows AUTOMATICALLY CLOSE?!?! or do they remain open and have to be manually closed every time I close the rear hatch and enter the car at the beginning of driving.

This is an awesome option if the windows close themselves after the hatch is closed. Any thoughts from those that HAVE this option already?! thanks you guys!!!!

The programming that can be set is that when you pop the trunk the windows drop a little and then when you close the trunk the windows close again.

Makes closing the trunk much much easier.

On the side marker/blinker question it is a single filament bulb and simply switch on for side marker or switched on and off for blinker.
On Gen 1's IIRC you can program the function of it...if someone wants to know for sure I can check next week at the dealer.

thanks for the QUICK reply!!! yeah it sounds like a great option now that I know it closes as well, makes much more sense now. Hope these options will work for a first generation 2006!!!!

I'll find out in 5 hours and report back after my dealer appointment!

I have all of these options turned on and I have an 06... so your in luck!

I paid my dealer to program my 987.1 Cayman front side markers to blink, but they no longer light up with the headlights as US cars are programmed to do. This functionality is consistent with non-US models of all recent years.

It looks like the US-spec 987.2 has the dual functionality programmed in (stays on with headlamps but also blinks with turn signals). Anyone able to verify whether this can be done with the 987.1?

Superchan:

987.1 has only one pair of conductors and one filament in the bulbs. It can blink or it can be a running light, but not both.

My car was at the dealer yesterday for the 24K service and I had them set the codes to a) drop the windows when opening the rear hatch, and b) lock the doors when driving off.

They charged me $30, which I thought was reasonable. Very happy with the results.

Dealer was Hoehn Porsche in Carlsbad, CA. Car is a 2008 base.

Good to hear Hoen will play ball with us. No surprise at all that Pioneer refused; I refuse to go there after my experience.

I have a 987.1 Boxster and would love to have the 987.2's feature of side markers on with parking lights then to blink with the turn signal. I have an idea for how this can be done with the existing single bulb as follows, and if anyone is interested in making this PNP, I would certainly buy it! It's complicated but I think it would work.

You'd need a relay wired into the side marker that is always on unless it is signalled, and the light current would come from the parking light curcuit. You can connect the signalling wire to the turn signal bulb hot wire so that when it receives current it signals the relay to turn off, thereby shutting off the side marker light with the same cadence as the bulb flashes. The side marker, however, would only flash when it is turned on with the parking lights. If you want them to blink with the parking lights off, you'd have to have a current sensing switch that would link the turn signal directly to the side marker set up in such a way as to allow current to pass directly from the turn signal to the marker light when the parking light signal is off.

Theoretically, what you would see is both the turn signal and side marker blink at the same time during the day with the parking lights off, and they would alternatively blink when the parking lights are on (i.e. a "negative blink").

Anyone up for the challenge?

Take care,
Franc
