Cayman Turbo

There are many others on this site that know much more than I do about P cars so hopefully someone can explain something to me. Of the Porsche models, only the Cayman and the Boxster do not have a turbo version. Is it even a remote possibility of P making a turbo Cayman or Boxster? They would charge their normal hefty premium for one and yes it would have more HP than other non-turbo 911s but less than the Turbo 911. I did not check so I coould be wrong but the turbo Cayenne probably has more HP than regular 911s too and granted they are completely different vehicles but P built the turbo Cayenne anyway. Just a thought or probably a dream on my part.

Yes, it's a remote possibility. Let's just say, VERY remote. :)

If you want forced induction on a Cayman, you'll have to go aftermarket. Most likely for many, many years to come.

A lot of reasons you will probably never see a turbo for the mid-engine cars....

1) Mid-engine, packaging and cooling will be big factors.
2) Would pretty much tear apart the average 911.
3) Price would probably move it out of its intended buyer segment.

I'll just be happy when they put in a 3.6 / 3.8 DFI in some years to come.....that most likely will happen......

Let's just say that they turbo'd the 2.7 and it put out 380 HP. How much would you pay for it? $90,000? Sounds about right given where it would slot in with the Porsche line up. Wait, you just killed the Cayman S and 90% of the Carrera and Carerra S. ;) Porsche has created quite a little puzzle for themselves. The Cayman cries out for more, but their "hand" is essentially "forced" to be still. The bright side of the equation is that as the Cayman and Boxster proliferate, the options for supercharging and turboing will as well. With more options comes competition and lower prices.

Nothing beats a nice factory produced package under warranty. I am sure Porsche has worn out several dry-erase boards trying to figure out how to slot a Cayman HP bump in the line-up and what the resulting sales impact would be. There is no easy answer and for that reason aftermarket is going to be the solution for at least the next few years.
