Cobalt Blue and Slate Grey

My last two Boxsters have been in Slate Grey. I love Slate Grey, but have been thinking about a change and have been impressed with the pictures of the Cobalt Blue Caymans that I have seen.

I haven't seen a Slate Grey Cayman yet and am not sure if the lines of the back will look good in the color. Does anyone have any experience or better yet pictures to share?

I have Cobalt and love it! In my opinion it is one of, if not the best color on the Cayman. But again, that is just my 2 cents.

Since your last two Boxsters have been slate I am not sure if that means you should for sure get slate b/c you like that color or if it means you should for sure get another color for your Cayman...hmm....

IMO Slate looks best with terracotta or natural brown. You would then be paying a nice $ premium for the color combo. Cobalt on the other hand looks good with black, tan or gray interiors and the color is no longer a $3k option. Slate is interestng because it is different (largely due to the price premium, I suspect), but it is still a variation on the black/gray scheme that runs so rampant with Porsche. Cobalt to me is a more exciting color without screaming ticket me like red or yellow does. In case you hadn't guessed, I have a Cobalt car, but Slate/Nat Brn would have been my second choice. You cant go wrong either way.

Fwiw

There are 6 black/gray colors, 3 greens, 3 blues, 2 reds, 1 silver (GT silver is more gray MO), 1 white, and 1 yellow. They definitely skew towards the dark end of the spectrum. I've never seen one I didn't like, but you can see where you might have to go to set your car apart.

One of the best combos I have seen for Cobalt is the Black/Grey full leather interior. Seems to match Cobalt very nicely!

Invader,
Cobalt rules! Gorgeous, somwhat rare, extra cost color when I ordered in January. I bought sight unseen and am glad I did. I think that my only other color choice might have been Lapis but that is now a premium color, I think. RussK probably does have the most shots of his cobalt CS amongst us. Do as he suggests for some very nice pics in Hawaii. They kept me going while I was waiting. (Thanks, Russ).
BTW, welcome aboard.

Hi Swamp,

Yes I do have quite a bevy of pics. I have never taken more photos of anything in my life. It just looks so good all the time I cannot help but grab the camera for some new shots.

I will be sending Invader some pics tonight.

Aloha Russ

I agree that the Porsche wears all colors very well indeed. Actually I was going to order the Blue. Having bought a slate grey off the show room floor, I took the opportunity to visit my body shop guru. We looked up the ingredients of slate grey. I turns out that it is a combination of a metallic and pearl finish. The slate grey is the base metallic in the paint, but there is considerably less metallic than in the typical metallic finish. An interesting note was that there is also copper suspended in the pearl medium, giving the slate a slight brown tinge in light. With all this rigamarole, maybe Porsche actually spent a bit of money and time to produce this exorbitant option.

i love slate! first of all it simply a gorgeous color, which looks anything from rather flat black to a deep greyish with brown hints, depending on the lighting, so you never get tired of it.
second its still rather rare.
third it goes well with all brown interiors (incl. cocoa).
fourth it hides dirt rather well.
cheers!

Have you decided?

Go for Cobalt Blue, just as unusual (rare, seldom seen, unique, however you want to call it) at a much smaller cost. Don't think anyone has a Cobalt & Natural Brown (that would look very nice).
Of course, if money isn't an issue, I'd go for Slate/Terracotta or Slate/Natural Brown.
If you want lots of metallic, the new Meteor Gray fits the bill (fits in between old Seal Gray and Slate Gray).
So, does Dark Olive (a truly unique color).
I'm still perplexed by Porsche's marketing schemes and pricing. If it's truly more difficult to "mix" premium metallic colors, then why would Dark Olive be a $3070 option on Porsche's sports cars and only cost $495 extra on a Cayenne, a lot more area to cover as well?
