I have seen this message twice in recent weeks when raising the top after a drive. In both cases, this is what I have seen on an external inspection.

Cycling the top again results in normal closure. I saw this same thing happen about three years ago on another Boxster I was taking for a test drive. If anyone can point me in the direction of a fix, I would greatly appreciate it. This is a 2011 987.2.
I love this car, and want to keep everything in proper working order.

The most common issue is the stretch band that pulls the top in when closing - this wears out or could be torn. There are plenty of posts here about how to fix this easily. Some are complicated (requires stitching), some are easier (stapling), and others even use stretching straps from mattresses (holds the sheets on the corners of the bed) - that's what I did on mine. Two clips (one on each end), and a stretch band... done.

Not to worry, @A&Mengineer81 - This is a pretty easy fix but make sure to do it before potentially damaging the rubber covered cables when closing as above -- that's not replaceable. I did mine in my '10 Boxster (do a quick search - @deilenberger 's fix is easy) last year I think - and just advanced the button to the next level or two so it won't catch. With our soft tops, the elastics stretch over time while the canvas top tightens - leading to issues like these. Let us know how you get on with the repair.

Success.
This morning I finished the project. The elastic was actually in good condition. There are four pieces that pull the top toward center. This is the right side. The long piece is stitched to the flap on the left side of the photo, and the smaller piece is in the center. You can see the T15 screw has been moved one slot over. I did this to each of the four straps. Optimum position for access seemed to be with the top retracted about 27" back from the windshield frame.
I actually spent more time cleaning dust from the hidden areas than making the adjustment. Hopefully it will be a trouble-free top-down summer.
