Is there a more economical way to put the 981 in dyno mode than buying a PIWIS or a Cobb Accessport?

You can use 4wd dyno to test without dyno mode.

If dyno mode is a must, I am only aware of what you alreqdy mentioned. Both Piwis and Cobb are valuable assets.

Keep in mind that you can buy used Cobb Accessport, then uninstall and resale when no longer needed.
On the other hand, Piwis unlocks a lot of possibilities and it is good to have it.

You don't have to install the Accessport to use dyno mode. Just plug it into the diag port and select dyno mode.

All of our diagnostic tools get us into dyno mode as well. The Foxwell NT530 with Porsche support works for this. I think they are $250-300.

Also I have tuned LOTs of Porsches without dyno mode. We have an AWD dyno but I prefer 2WD mode if at all possible. I can say the 991 GT3 RS needs dyno mode, perhaps manual trans 982s as well. Lot's of Caymans do not. The first 3-4 attempts at a pull will the have the traction control in fits. Then it just turns off and works fine.

If you decide you want an AP reach out and I'll hook you up. They are often 10% these days and we have free shipping for P-9 members.
