Front clearance question? 981 & 981 x73 vs. 996.2 C2?

Hello, long time lurker that has gotten a lot out of the P9's collective wisdom, so wanted to thank you first of all for that.

I'm currently getting closer and closer to pulling the trigger on a 981 (thinking of a driver-focused, relatively basic 981C 6sp)

My question is on the front clearance of a 981, a Cayman in particular if that matters. Anyone have any sense of how a 981 compares to my '03 996.2 (standard suspension, no aerokit or other unusual front end bodywork) in terms of driveway/speedbump clearance? I just barely clear in my current car.

If that question is too easy, the bonus would be w/ the x73 sports suspension?

I'm not against re-sloping my driveway entrance of course, just want to know!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/information.

Please explain why the bar is better than not having a bar. It would seem that having the bar would make the front even closer to the ground causing it to scrape more often and with more force.
Thanks!

NO NEED TO REPLY. I NOW HAVE SEEN THE EARLIER REPLIES TO SIMILAR QUESTIONS> THANKS

You should make a scrape bar for 987 cars too!

the 981 is already better as the nose is already a tad shorter I think? I see a lot of Cayman Rs running around without problem in where I live. And there are to new of steep parking lots -- many of them at a little scary to get through actually

My car has those little thingys under the front next to front tires ,it measures 2 3/4 inches to floor. They won't be there long? I was looking at the scrape bar and I thought that would just make the car lower. I rather scrape the front Then having the scrape bar lift the whole bumper up? Talk to me! Im still a little green

the scrape bar is made of aluminum...it moves up the bumper just enough to scrape and be sacrificial. painting a bumper cost more than 99.00 and if you made a hole ..a bit more expensive. it wont lift the whole bumper up...only the parts that scrapes... am sure a few people who bought the scrape bar will chime in..

[h=2]here is a customer on the other thread..sorry for the bold font.

Re: Ground clearance of Boxster in Northern California?[/h]
It sits very slightly below the plastic piece, and actually pushes everything up a little when it scrapes.
I have one, and it's a good early-warning system in case you aren't sure... You can listen for the scrape of the bar, and then adjust accordingly, or know that it's going to clear because it's pushed everything up.

I had mine installed at Schnell :)

Standard clearance is 4.7 to 4.8 inches -- same as an NC Mazda MX-5 Miata with the Club Sport or Suspension package. PASM is about 4.4 to 4.5 inches. X73 is 4.1 inches. A 997.2 GT3 is about 3.7 inches. I don't have 996.2 Carrera numbers. 4 inches is safe in nearly all areas, aside from old parking garages (pre-1970), or new commercial lots on very old roads. 4.5 or higher is always safe. Below 4 is why there are front axle lifts available as an option.

The problem with scraping is if you scrape too much or hit the lip/bumper a little harder, they will crack. It's my really about the cosmetic damage, but rather about breaking something ...

I can't provide specific info on the X73 but do have H&R sport springs (car sits a little lower than the X73). IMO, the scrape bar was a worthwhile purchase. Based on my experience, the X73 would be fine for a DD. I have only encountered a problem once in the 4 months of ownership where my car was too low where I had to take an alternate route to avoid the stupidly short/ steep slope in a parking lot.

Hopefully my measurements will offer some assistance:

Height to front flap in front of tires: 2"
Height to front plastic flap/ lower spoiler: 6"
Height to front painted spoiler: 6 3/4"
Height to scrape bar: 4.25"

Although I hadn't taken the above measurements before installing there H&R's, I did take the fender to ground measurements before and then after the H&R's were installed/ settled:

Front: 27 5/8" --> 26 1/4"
Rear: 28 11/16 --> 26 15/16"

BTW, those "plastic flaps" or "black bits" in front of the front tires are air deflectors. They deflect air flow, reduce lift, and improve front end handling particularly at high speeds. They may be inexpensively replaceable, but they're not disposable.
