How do I change corner lights for 987.2?

Currently, I have 987.2 Cayman S with yellow corner lights. I bought a pair of clear corner lights but don't know how to install them.
Is it easy to DIY? How? Or should I take it to the dealer/garage and pay someone to do it?

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

Only follow those instructions if you want to mess up the clips on your factory side markers. On the 987.2 there is a little plastic plug in the fender behind the marker light. Pop that out and stick a small screw driver or something in there, you can feel the metal clip to push on. They will pop loose.

+10000000 on the above!!!
Not a big deal since you're likely not going to re-use those amber lights HOWEVER....this was my very first 'mod' when I bought the car and the first thing I did was forget to put the rubber shielding over the wire connector...when I realized it, I went ahead to remove the newly installed clear marker light the same way I removed the amber...by pulling it out and bending the clips. I was sooooo angry at the instructions!

So now my clear marker wouldn't clip correctly and just sat there loose..bouncing in the wind. I'm the type to not let adversity stop me so I left it for now to clear my head and went ahead and installed the passenger side. So now I have both clear markers installed and both amber bent-clip markers sitting on the grass. I go back to the loose driver marker and remove it to see if I can put the clip back the way it was. I haven't broken it...just straightened it out of shape but what was that original shape??? Now that I've bent both amber markers and installed my passenger clear marker WITHOUT taking note of what the clip looked like, I'm screwed! I had to mentally figure out how that clip provided pressure to hold it in the slot once pushed it...trial and error and a pair of needlenose plyers and FINALLY it's snug as a bug.

In my mind, the worse case scenario was that I would buy another marker but would have to wait a week for delivery. Not cool on the first day of ownership. Use the little fender hole. Suncoast really needs to remove those instructions.

Thanks for all your replies.

HoBoJoe, I'm confused with your reply "Only follow those instructions if you want to mess up the clips on your factory side markers".
Did you mean that I would mess up the clips on my factory side markers "if" I follow those instructions?
Or you meant if I follow those instructions I "won't" mess up the clips on my factory side markers?

Also, please forgive my ignorance, how do I access that "little plastic plug in the fender behind the marker light"? Does anyone have picture to show that little plastic plug in the fender?

Thanks!

Yes if you follow those instructions you will mess up the side markers you are removing. I believe the instructions from the suncoast site are for a 987.1. On a 987.2 you need to use a tool to push the metal clips otherwise they will bend when you remove them. When I picked up my side markers from the dealer I asked a tech about how to install them and was informed NOT to just pull them out.

If you would like I can take a pic of the plastic piece you need to pop out from the fender liner behind the side marker.

BTW, the 987.1 also has a rubber plug which is removed from the fender liner near the fender lip to access a hole through which a screwdriver is inserted to push back the spring metal catch to release the lens. That's the proper removal method.

I used heavy test fishing line as follows:

1. Slip a piece of fishing line (I used 40lb test) under the front point of the side marker. You may have to put a little pressure on top or bottom of the lens to free up a gap to get the line completely under the point of the light. 2. Carefully work the line back from the point 1/2 to 3/4 inch toward the center of the light. 3. Holding both end of the fishing line, give the line a firm tug, not too hard. This will unclip the lens form front pressure clip and partially from the rear pressure clip 4. Carefully remove the lens the rest of the way from the rear pressure clip and a slight tilt will also release the safety clip as well. 5. Remove the bulb from the amber lens, replace bulb with amber bulb, align slots on bulb gasket with clear lens align tabs on clear lens with pressure clips on vehicle and press lens into place. Total time expended on first side (using the owner’s manual method) 30 minutes by the time I put everything back together. Total time expense on second side 4 minutes. I hope this helps everyone save some time so you can spend less time with your hand(s) wedged up inside the fender well and more time behind the wheel.

Joe,

Thanks!
Would you mind taking some pictures as how we should "properly" install the side markers?
It seems that Suncoast is not providing proper ways to install these side markers for 987.2, and most of us don't really want to mess up either original side markers nor the new ones.

Thanks for your help!
