Personally I would not even attempt to glue something to the dash, anything strong enough to hold would likely damage the surface if you tried to remove it.

I really wished car manufactures would have considered this during design, it would have been a small matter to install a few threaded inserts in appropriate locations in or around the dash to mount things...

I have this, it works great. Clean, simple, and effective.

Some states are passing laws that prohibit mounting things on the windshield that block your line of sight, and personally I would never glue something to my dash.

 

I have been using Scotch Extreme Mounting Tape (at any home store) for years. No question about holding power, just have to have sufficient tape area. I usually make a 2 inch dia plug for the tape. The plug has a blind nut in it to attach to whatever mount comes with the thing you want to mount; cell phone, GPS, etc. I have never removed any of the plugs so I don't know if it would leave a mark. Do not use any type of glue.

Well I tried a double-sided carpet tape but it let go after a day. And it was quite hard (after just one day) to get rid of the residues of the adhesive. :-\ //Plaincollar

 

Is mounting on glass an option? There is glue for rear view mirrors that might work (depending on the thing you're trying to mount).

 

No, I don't won't anything on the windscreen, partly regarding the visibility partly because all this equipment are of course by default factory mounted at the consol........

I use this - in the CDR30 it is just the right height in between the aircond blowers.
