No squeak thus far in my 2015, knock on wood. If it does decide to rear it's ugly head, as least we know the cause and solution now.

I was paying attention last couple of weeks. And I just can't find the pattern. Full tank def. not causing the squicking. Not always. Cold weather - no. It's been pretty cold last week - below 40F today in the morning - and everything is quiet. Argh!

Mine was definitely the fuel tank. I kept it around 30% full for the last couple weeks before I got rid of it and had no squeaking. When it was full..squeaking.

I would imagine it's fixed by now. My Cayman was delivered just a week after launch cars so it was rather early in the production. Not sure if that's everyone else's experience, but here's the tech's notes:

"Client reports that when there is a half a tank of gas or more, there is a squeak in the dash. Tech test drove and heard noise coming from the dash in front of the driver. Tech followed client concern and connected chassi ears to the front of the vehicle on the body and test drove. Found noises coming from the front fire wall area. Tech dropped the rear of the gas tank down and found rear tank insulation/body contact pads were missing. Tech R&R tank to install pads. Bled coolant and test drove to verify repair".

Good to hear! My '15 has remained silent so far. I really don't miss my '13 981 at all; not even a little haha.

Squeaking is completely gone!

This thread is very helpful!!!

My 2014 CS has been at dealer for 3 days now. I test drove with tech and it was squeaking badly just as described in this thread. Goes away as fuel level goes below 1/2. I have tried to direct them to the info in this thread but don't know if they are listening!!

I'm getting concerned at what they have disassembled in their search and what my car will look like when they're done!

My car has an intermittent dash rattle (on bad roads) that could be this issue. Will pay attention next time. At least it's not constant. And I have a full tank now. Does anybody know if the fix is from the top or the bottom? Maybe it's something I could address, since it's definitely not nearly as bad as stated here. At least it can be fixed OUTSIDE the car. I just don't trust techs quieting squeaks and rattles. The only time I attempted that, they weren't fixed, and ended up with scratches and scuffs dealer asked me to prove they weren't there when car was dropped off. Geez. Besides, I like the challenge of tackling those. Unless absolutely driving me nuts, I don't plan to ever let a dealer attempt to fix them again. Techs are not trained for that anyway, so might as well attempt it myself;).

The dealer has ordered new tank pads. My car had all the pads there but according to the TSB the pads shift and cause the noise. Hopefully I'll get it back tomorrow!!

Good luck man. Hey, please ask how the fix is performed, will you?;) Curious if it's from the frunk, or under the car. And what needs to be removed. Thx.

YES! This is the noise. Most noticeable with a full tank. There is a TSB on it. There are six pads on the fuel tank and two of them can shift causing the noise-sounds like a styrofoam cooler squeak!

Awesome, I thought I was going crazy explaining this to my service manager, and my exact words were, it sounds like two pieces styrofoam rubbing against each other. Yesterday just picked up my car from service, had the door panels replaced under warranty and a shift knob, driving back I was cautiously happy, I didn't hear any sound, however now in retrospect, my tank was less than half full. I filled up the tank later in the day, and sure enough the noise was there!, this is great, I can now stop bending over backwards under the footwell like a gymnast, trying to figure out what the heck is it.

I actually sent the SA this forum thread to show them what other's have found. They were appreciative as a tech can loose a lot of time chasing squeaks and rattles.

Interesting turn of events... Not all parts came in so I retrieved my car for the weekend. My dash camera had triggered and recorded the person assigned to my repair... I can't even call him a technician! I have a recording of him driving around talking on his phone F-bombing me, the service adviser my car and NO he wasn't hands free. Roughly 39 minutes of riding around beating on panels, prying on the trim with a screw driver complaining that it's not F'ing fuel tank pads! I couldn't believe the attitude this guy has!

Totally different story than what the SA was telling me.

Holy crap! I'd make sure the guy gets fired.. which shouldn't be hard. You could actually get the dealership in a heap of trouble, so they WILL listen to you. That's always my fear of taking my cars to dealers. For crissakes, you already did most of the work for them, by giving them the freaking TSB; unbelievable. Anyway, now that you have proof of a bad apple, I'd do all I could to make sure he doesn't do that crap to anybody else. Maybe he'll get a job at a landfill;). Good luck, and please keep us posted.

I got a 2013 911S three weeks ago and experienced a similar noise once. I've filled up a few times, and can't say if it happens to me on a full tank or not, but I'll be experimenting this week.

Hopefully Porsche of Orlando won't treat me or my car like @lastlap experienced [emoji33].

Man, that's like winning the lottery. You have that dealer by the short-and-curlies. Make it count.
