Does anyone have their paperwork with the TSB service number, I'm bringing my car in for this issue next week, however, the squeaking noise goes away and comes back. I told the service manager that I have a video of the noise, and I know that during the drop off it might not be very evident, however, if there is a TSB on this issue, I would rather give them the number to look it up, because my warranty is up mid OCT and I just dont have the time to go to the dealer on a moments notice.

No TSB number, but my service manager knew of it - although when I first brought it up to him he said he had no idea.

It's gas tank related and the fix is to put foam pads between the tank and firewall.

Maybe this will help - this is what they did. Maybe they can look up the TSB via the part number.

I appreciate that, I will show them what I have, and hopefully they can solve the problem, because at times, the noise is so loud, its almost embarrassing.

I know what you mean. It usually happened to me with a full->3/4 tank and then it would go away.

Since they did that repair it's been perfect.

Same, thats funny because at 3/4 the noise is usually more pronounced, at full tank not so much, but its inconsistent. And the problem with my local dealer is that they usually schedule out about a week in advance, they are very busy, if you want to get a loaner that it is. And the dealer is about 35 mins away from me (w/o traffic), I was even thinking about just flying down there when the noise was very loud, and have them check it, and then bring me in for service when its convenient for them, well fingers crossed.

Same here (Orlando).

Holy $hit; that's a crapload of disassembly. By the way, I'd demand an alignment after messing with the front sub-frame. Hope my 2016 never gets that. Good luck.

That was my reaction when I saw this also, but hadn't thought they would do something that could cause alignment issues. I'll check it out.

Not sure if this is the issue or not....but I just bought a pre-owned 2014 Cayman S. I have the complete service history of the car - it was given to me by the dealer. The previous owner complained about a squeak under the steering column.

Dealer stated "steering column firewall boot had disengaged from the firewall". fix was "re-positioned the column boot. secured in firewall. lubricated with high pressure grease, re-installed under panels"

hope this help solve your issue.

cheers

Great news, took my BS to the dealer, at first they thought it was a rubber gasket rubbing against something, then they finally took the gas tank off, and the pad diagnoses was 100% spot on, turnaround time was less than a day after diagnoses, now there is no more noise, and I'm a really happy camper.

PS: On the funny side, the service manager told me he also drives a Boxster, and the day he was able to fix my car, he had an unsettling squeeing noise during his drive, that dreaded styrofoam sound, and because I was able to provide the diagnostic, he is having the same issue fixed on his car, but prior to my case, he has never heard of the problem.

We don't have the TSB code, however, depending on the dealer you can get them to either look into the squeaking tank right away or search their database.
Thank you. It surprising how many threads across boards reference this document, yet no specifics. It's like the the missing Watergate Tapes. :hilarious:

I was hoping to shortcut the conversation at the dealer, and to be better informed about this all generally as I decide what steps to take.

From what I understand, Porsche U.S has a very out-dated database system, where none of the dealers can share information, this is according to my SA. After i I told them about the issue, and even showed them the service print out posted above, they still tried to solve the problem by greasing certain areas under the dash. The key is to have the service tech to acknowledge the problem, after which they have to keep looking for it, and once they get frustrated, they should eventually get to the fuel tank. Anyway, they replaced my padding, and no more noise at all!.

Dealer states cannot find a bulletin related to the gas tank / pads.

Any references to the service bulletin (number / code / name ) would be super appreciated.

Thank you.

My car had some squeaking as well. I wouldn't say it was severe, but it was constant and very annoying. I could mask it by playing some music, but that defeats the point of this car. Anyway, I took it to the dealer and the first thing the sa checked was the foam pads near the gas tank. My car was missing one foam pad and another was displaced. So they corrected that, but that wasn't the cause of the squeak. They kept the car for a couple of days more and tried everything. Eventually, they removed the struts, cleaned and relubed the strut mount area, and put everything back together. That solved the problem.
