Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

I'm glad you brought that up. Governments set regulations and laws. Governments, at least democratically elected ones, are the will of the people. Discussing laws and regulations is an integral and essential part of auto enthusiasm. Whether it be emissions laws that effect us all, DOT standards, scandals, or whatever. They are very real, exist, and law abiding people abide them. They also change the face of the automotive world, whether we like it or not.

You do not have to dance around fact. But you do not get to make remarks concerning the people who make the laws and their agendas vice your own life view. That is virtual flaming and will not be tolerated as the rules clearly indicate.[/QUOTE]

Do you realize that your statement is also political?

While we can theorize this to death, I don't believe that the sound and poor reviews are the main thing killing sales. Look at the current BMW M3 and M4. It was trashed by journalists for its "gargling concrete" like sound out of the exhaust and lack of steering feel. But, that didn't hurt sales. My humble opinion is people are passing on the 718 more for the fact it's a 4 cylinder vs. the previous gen's 6. And while the current M3/M4 was a loss of two cylinders from the previous generation, the car has a long history of running inline 6s so that most likely didn't hurt.

I think you've nailed it, at least for long time Porsche buyers. There is a perceived loss of prestige going from 6 to 4 cylinders and then having to pay more just adds to the frustration. I have a perfectly fine 987 that I would in no way consider trading "up" to a 718. A 911 maybe.
