CEL on but no fault codes

The dreaded check engine light came on today, so I hooked up the Durametrics software diagnostic tool to see what was up. Surprisingly there are no fault codes showing in any of the diagnostic categories, yet the CEL persists. This leads me to wonder how comprehensive the Durametrics software really is. It must be missing something. I have the latest software version (5.1.3) that's available from the Durametrics Web site.

Anybody have any clue why there would be a CEL without fault codes?

You might try emailing Duram and asking him about it (he was pretty helpful when I was having problems resetting the service reminder) - he may want you to create and send him a work log from your connection.

FWIW, I have had CELs that weren't even recorded as fault codes for the dealer's PIWIS to read.
If the CEL stays on, then I would take it to your dealer, if I were you.

I hooked up the Durametrics diagnostic again today but I still don't see any fault codes in any category and the CEL remains on. I also went through each category and did a fault code clear even though there were no codes showing, just to see if that would make a difference (it didn't).

I did clear a service reminder a little over a week ago before I had the CEL problem, so I'm wondering if that could have something to do with this...?

BINGO!!! That did the trick. :) I guess the ECU had gotten itself into some spurious state that got cleared by disconnecting the battery. Santa Fe, you are a GENIUS!!!
