OEM short shift kit

My previous car was a Honda S2000. Each shift felt smooth and was like cutting through butter. On the Cayman, not so much. Shifting feels weird. Feels like plastic rubbing on plastic. If I change over to the OEM SSK, will the shifting feeling improve?

The throws will be shorter, but I doubt you'll think it has improved the feel any. This is a cable system, since the transaxle is behind the engine and the shift lever just moves cables that run all the way back, over the engine, and down to the tranny. No way will it feel as precise as a direct shift lever-to transmission setup.

I went from an S2000 to the Cayman as well. Still have the Honda. Since I have been driving the S2000 for nine years, I'm really used to it. And it was a daily driver, not just weekends. I'll admit, the honda's shifter is way better. But I've found enough other attributes to make up for the spongy shifter. I'm very fortunate to own both, and enjoy both in different ways. But I can forgive the shifter.

Echoing responses above, from a former S2000 owner as well.

I put in the OEM ssk, and the throws are much more direct, but you do add a touch of weight to the throws that was not there before. You do, of course, add a more direct pathway from gear to gear.

Neither stock nor SSK will get you that bolt action s2k shift. Not that I'm willing to trade back, of course...

Both the OEM SSK and the B&M were not up to the precision I was looking for. I would say besides a shorter throw the stock was better.

semi-solid transmission mounts do help to clean up any shift but at the expense of a increased NVH. But that adds to experience in my mind.

I am looking at having custom cables and ends made right now.
