I remember that multiple errors would pop up after a battery disconnect or discharge. I think the solution was to drive around a bit to "reset" everything.

Maybe you could just drive around the block a few times that way if something is really wrong, you won't be stranded. As long as the check engine light isn't flashing and the car is running smoothly, give this a shot.

Except the airbag light, it should (will likely) work...

 

Doesn't the manual say something about remaining stationary and turning the wheels left and right, and after that, driving in a straight line? You might want to try that procedure.

I had a battery become discharged, recharged it, and it actually caused the airbag light to malfunction. As I write this I'm still waiting on a replacement circuit board for the faulty light.

 

The same thing happened to me. I disconnected the battery to remove the driver seat a few weeks ago (extinguisher mount install). They went off once I took a drive around the block.

 

Same thing happened to me when I installed my radar detector. Even though I read all of the posts here telling of the same fate, I still had a heart attack. I didn't even make it out of our complex before everything settled down and all of the warnings went away. Go drive.

 

Look folks, if it were not for the quirks on our cars we wouldn't have much to blog about.

Indeed, after backing out of the driveway and driving one block, the PSM and PASM returned to normal function, even without a restart.

Of course it helped that I stoked the left rear leg of a toad and threw salt over my left shoulder while standing on my right leg under a crescent moon.

You know I've always found the search tool more reliable than the toad but you never know (and toads are hard to find in NM).

 

ABS /PSM Light On

I just installed a new battery as my original didn't crank anymore. As soon as I connected the new battery, both my PSM and ABS lights have come on. They have now been on for the past week and haven't reset.

Anyone know of a fix without bringing to the dealer which is unfortunately a 100 miles away.

Take a read through the thread ^ I just merged yours onto... driving your car around the block should clear these... or, if you know someone with the Porsche Durametric software, they might be able to clear them... if not, you'll need to get them cleared at the dealer...

Did any other lights come on after you put the new battery in? It's known that when the battery is disconnected and reconnected, a bunch of random error lights will appear but will go away after a bit of normal driving.

You have nothing to lose at this point, disconnect the battery again and see if this "reboots" the thing.

Mine's a '06 Cayman S (tiptronic) and faces the same PSM/PASM failure issues after disconnecting the battery. Did as told and drove around the block for 20mins - stopped and restart the engine. PSM/PASM failure gone! Yay!

However, i realized the transmission shifting becomes a little erratic. Will this disappear in time too?

LOVE you guys! Just swapped my steering wheel on my 06 CS ( disconnected battery) and got a PSM Failure warning light! Heart attack time! But then just a quick search here and I am feeling so much better. Can't wait to take it out and see the warning go away!

 

Got both the PSM and PASM errors when I disconnected the battery for seat removals. PASM cleared after about a minute of idle time and the PSM error cleared in about 50 feet of driving (both times). Thanks to all for the post. Saved me a bunch of worry.
