Hi everyone,

Such a great thread. Have an erisin getting shipped to me now for my 981 which I'll be picking up next week.

Just a question.

The 981 I'm getting has front and rear parking sensors (audible) and the on screen sensors too.

Any chance these will still work with the Erisin (at least the sound) once it's installed, or will I lose these?

Also, does anyone know if the carplay can work with a wired iPhone rather than bluetooth? I generally find that it's less laggy like that.

Thanks!

Hi,

Looking to get this head unit on my new-to-me 981 Cayman. Shocked it didn't have bluetooth audio, I didn't even think to test it on test drive because my even older car had it lol, but it seems like almost everyone has positive reviews on it.
On the US website, they say they're out of units from Hong Kong, and then from the UK and Germany, they don't ship to the US..
But if I go on the UK website, you can still ship it from Hong Kong to the US
The only difference is which website you look at it from

I'm confused lol, should I just eat the cost of the currency conversion or should I just wait for the US website to update

Backup Camera Update:
I changed my piss poor Natika low-def camera to Erisin's ES586. The ES586 only cost $18 w/ shipping from China! Downside is it took several weeks.
  • I initially bought a GreenYi backup camera on Amazon for $50 because it had a similar camera plug style to the Natika. I wanted to do everything in my power not to pull trim and cut wires again in the back. Unfortunately, the Erisin never recognized the camera. I blame it on possible different pinouts of the 4-pin connector.
  • Erisin's ES586 showed up, and the connector looks identical to the GreenYi. However, the head unit immediately recongnized the camera using the Natika cable. Success!
  • My recommendation is to buy the GreenYi camera on Amazon because it's high-def AND the camera angle is adjustable. The kit also came w/ more accessories.
  • Erisin's ES586 is a much better definition camera than the Natika. However, the kit came w/ zero instructions or accessories and isn't adjustable. Still a great value-for-money, but I was looking for best camera available on market.
Note: the Erisin auto-detects camera resolution and is capable of 1080 AHD (analog high def).

Attached are shots from the Natika and Erisin camera using the same beach towel for reference. Not exactly in the same place, but you get the idea! The resolution of the Erisin camera seems to be as good as the factory BMW camera now, and I think that's one of the best on the market outside of Tesla (y)

I see the product on the website, but it says:

"

They have the model for the cayenne available, but it looks like the dimensions are just slightly off.
I just tried out of curiosity, when I go to Erisin ES8559C 7" IPS Android 11.0 Car Multimedia Wireless CarPlay Android Auto Radio For Porsche Cayman/Boxster/718/911/981/997 GPS DSP 4G SIM Card And change country to USA (it defaults to germany for some reason). It allows me to purchase and ship from Hong Kong, UK or germany?

It gives me no shipping options for UK or germany - but I think they must've just restocked Hong Kong, it's available to ship from Hong Kong to the US via DHL again :)

It looks a little cheaper on Aliexpress, but that one's still greyed out for me, I think I'll just grab one at a slight premium to ensure I get one at least haha.

ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY BY THE CAPABILITY OF THIS CHEAP LITTLE UNIT!!!

Currently in the process of hooking up a front and rear cameras now. I bought and tested a few cameras tonight and came up with this as the best result:

It's fully adjustable and had an absolutely incredible picture. My plan is to wire them up to the front and rear bumpers (holes drilled).

I tested the cameras wired up and concluded that the front Camera needs to be in #10 video and the power line (attached to video line) runs to #9 (Front Cam Power).
As far as the backup camera, it goes into #1 Video line and the included power cable attaches to #6 (Cam Power). NO NEED TO HOOK UP THE REAR END OF THE LINES TO ANY POWER SOURCE!!! :) This is going to make it a lot easier to install.

Backup camera fires up in about a second or two when shifting into reverse, however the front camera requires you to select the front cam application from the menu. (Trying to figure out a way to set it as a dedicated button or press of the knob) Gonna test out tomorrow based on some previous write-ups.

My question for the group is.......Is there a video or guide anywhere with people running cameras to the rear or front bumpers? I've found little bits here and there but nothing very conclusive.

Anyone's unit wouldn't turn on after not driving the car for a few days? I cannot be the only one with this issue.

I kept the car on a trickle charger. The first time it's dead I replaced the car battery and it's worked again. Then as it was getting colder I kept the car in the garage for 2 weeks and when I turned the car on yesterday the unit was dead again.

The unit is great when it's working but constant power issue is frustrating. I'm this close to throwing this thing in the garbage.

Sorry,
No problems so far! However, my Cayman is a daily driver. Longest it's sat is probably 4 days while I'm on a trip...

See post #85 & #86 of this thread if it will solve your issue. I left my car 981C on trickle charger for 11 days last June while on vacation and no problem at all. My battery is still the orig since new July 2016 delivery.

Great info, but hoping you can clarify something. At first you say the Erisin doesn’t recognize GreenYi camera, but then you say you recommend the GreenYi. So I’m confused. could you explain?

So I just got my head unit in the mail today, was super excited to install it. Haven't setup the Bose fiber audio yet, but I had to drive to the store to get a part, got the part, did a partial install in the parking lot of the store, and the second I turned the car on after install, the check engine light "engine control fault, driving permitted".

If I only touched the head unit... any ideas?

This is a real bummer, I don't have an OBD reader, going to take it to a shop to get it read as soon as possible, but the shop said I might have to recode the head unit? Doesn't sound like anyone else has had to do that though.

Have you completed or reversed the partial install?

Yes, completely reversed back to stock. But I do plan on trying again soon.

I took it to a shop, the fault codes were a bunch of "lost communication with pcm" faults + 3 cylinder misfires, which caused the CEL.
The shop thinks the misfires were just a weak battery and have cleared the codes - cars been started 3 times since then without issues.

For context, the car sat for 4 days without a tender (I live in an apartment, no way to use a tender). Was excited to install the head unit, so I drove the car <5 minutes to an auto store to get a tool, then I spent ~30 minutes in the parking lot trying to gently disassemble everything and figure out the bose optical stuff. The shop said that having the car unlocked with the doors open and the key inside the car kept it "awake" and draining battery, and sitting for awhile + not driving might've drained just enough battery to mess with the startup. The tech did also say that these caymans have notoriously small batteries, so I think that explanation checks out to me... but I admittedly don't know too much.

Small battery or not though, 4 days is not that long for a car to sit, makes me nervous for the 3 weeks its going to have to sit next month.

Read post #85 & #86 to change Erisin setting if you are concerned on draining your battery.
